Playa del Carmen Activities
We’re located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, surrounded by innumerable natural wonders. There are the stunning beaches to relax at and get a tan. Plus, they offer all sorts of water activities. Just in front of the Riviera Maya is the world’s second largest coral reef, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Explore the amazing underwater world snorkeling or scuba diving!
Cenotes, natural pools formed by collapsing bedrock, are unique to the Yucatan Peninsula. Swimming or diving in their impossibly clear water in a magical cave or under the jungle-framed sky makes for a truly unforgettable experience.
And of course, there are many awe-inspiring Mayan ruins that make you imagine how the Mayan people lived. Nestled on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, the ruins of Tulum sure are among the most beautiful. Close to them is Cobá, overlooking the jungle. And, the most famous for being one of the 7 World Wonders, Chichen Itza. All of them make for a great day excursion.
Playa del Carmen Gay Nightlife
Since Playa del Carmen is a very gay-friendly town, there are only a few places destined for the LGBT audience. You will be pleasantly surprised to find quite a mixed crowd at most locations.
This is the one and only gay nightclub in Playa del Carmen, on most days entertaining you with a drag show. Club 69 is right on the 5th Avenue, with 6th Street (walk down the alley to the left of the 7 Eleven shop), and opens on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The party usually doesn't really start before 2 am. The entrance fee is 50 pesos (about 2.50 USD).
La Cueva del Maya-T
Famous for its gay (male) strip shows, this rather casual bar attracts mainly locals. On some evenings they have an entrance fee of 50 pesos. The bar is a bit outside of Playa del Carmen’s center, on the 1st Street South between the Avenues 40 and 45. The best way to get there is by taxi.
This club on the famous 12th street, Playa del Carmen's party mile, isn’t really a gay club. But usually, you find a gay crowd there. It’s the perfect place if you just want to dance, have fun and are looking for fair priced drinks. They play a bit of everything and have themed evenings like wet t-shirt contest or twerking contest.

There is a beach club, or you can just stay at the beach in front of it. Mamita’s is at the 28th Street, about 10 minutes walking distance from Playa Palms Beach Hotel.

Imagine a nightclub at the beach under the sun. Coralina is your place to be if you are looking for party and meeting new, fun people. This beach club is at the 26th Street, close to Mamita’s.
This is your beach if you prefer a quiet place to escape the crowds for a while. To get there, walk up to the ferry station and cross the Señor Frog’s Restaurant next to it.

Gay Events in Playa del Carmen
Other than the Playa Pride Parade in June (usually the second or third weekend), Playa del Carmen hosts Mexico’s biggest LGBT dance music festival. The Arena Circuit Party takes place every year at the beginning of February and turns Playa del Carmen into gay paradise for a week. In addition to a great line up with international house DJs, you will dance your feet off at the most fantastic locations along the Riviera Maya. Imagine dancing under the stars in the middle of a jungle, at the beach or at a cenote! The festival attracts a very international gay crowd that is growing from year to year.
